| Old pages will be reappearing in RSS feeds for a while Posted: 01 Feb 2013 12:57 PM PST I'm making changes to how the data for each content page on Mega Free Wallpapers is stored. While I am doing this existing pages will reappear in the RSS feed as new pages. Mega Free Wallpapers does not use a database to store each of its pages. Instead, it stores all content pages in a directory structure, and the site template parses these directories and pages to produce the links and content. The downside of this is that, whenever I make even a minor update to a page, when I FTP transfer the modified page to the server, the site sees the newly modified file & marks the page as new again. The change I am making is to split the data from the content pages. The data will be stored in a completely separate directory, and the content pages will use a PHP include function to load the data from the data directory. That way any changes made to an existing page will be done in the background, while new pages will still be placed at the top of the RSS feed. Of course, if I make major changes to an existing page's data, I can still mark that page as new just by manually changing the file time on the server. To make this major change I have to manually modify every existing content page on the site (which will mark them as new), so RSS subscribers will be seeing those old pages in their feed readers until I complete the task.
