PeTA Shoot : Bollywood beauty Amrita Rao & Bad Man Gulshan Grover

Posted: 15 Jul 2011 03:45 AM PDT

Since her sensational breakthrough role in Ishq Vishk, Bollywood star Amrita Rao has never looked back. She has received many accolades for her acting in movies such as Main Hoon Na and Vivaah. After her new release, Love You, Mr Kalakaar, Amrita is revealing how she maintains her fitness and stamina – by maintaining a vegetarian diet. In her brand-new ad for PETA India, Amrita tells the world that she is “powered by tofu”.

Gulshan Grover might be Bollywood’s best-known villain, but to dogs and cats waiting for homes in animal shelters or struggling to survive on the streets, he’s a hero. Gulshan – along with five stunning Hollywood starlets and six adorable canine pals – has teamed up with PETA for an ad urging everyone to open their hearts and homes to an animal from the streets or a shelter.

Shahrukh Khan’s weirdo look in Don 2

Posted: 14 Jul 2011 05:53 AM PDT

The pictures of Don 2: The Chase Continues are out, and so is Shah Rukh Khan’s look in it. The actor wears long hair and stuble, with a tattoo on his right forearm. SRK’s character wants to capture the entire European market. So the actor wears a beefy look in the film. And Don is no longer an Indian gangster, who is wanted in 11 countries. He is now a European ganglord.

The sequences being shot show Shahrukh as a prisoner, lodged behind bars in a jail in Malaysia and matching his muscle power with the inmates. The film will also have SRK doing a good number of death-defying stunts including a jump from a high-rise in Berlin.

Don 2 also stars Lara Dutta, Kunal Kapoor and Boman Irani. Hrithik Roshan will be seen in a cameo.

San Francisco’s Fashion Incubator At Macy’s Heralds New Designers

Posted: 15 Jul 2011 02:03 AM PDT

If new San Francisco Major Edwin M. Lee has his way, your clothing will be getting a whole lot more local.

From the boom time of the Gold Rush when a young Levi Strauss began making durable denim pants for miners, the Bay Area has always been a hot bed for U.S. apparel manufacturing. Things have changed a lot just since 2002, (commonly agreed as the final death knell for Bay Area fashion), when Levi's shuttered six U.S. plants including its historic Valencia Street operation in San Francisco.

"Twenty years ago, fashion apparel was the second-biggest industry in San Francisco, behind tourism. Today local fashion apparel designers struggle to stay afloat," says Dennis Conaghan, Executive Director of the San Francisco Center for Economic Development.

Over the years there have been numerous efforts to breathe life into San Francisco’s struggling fashion scene, so it was a thrilling day for industry pundits when the announcement was made from Mayor Edwin M. Lee’s office on Monday that a new fashion incubator would launch next year.

Called the Fashion Incubator San Francisco at Macy's Union Square (FISF), the group's mission is to turn creative fashion apparel designers into successful San Francisco entrepreneurs. "We're proud to be starting San Francisco's first fashion incubator program, and I believe FISF will help reclaim SF's legacy as a leader in the fashion apparel industry and keep creative talent in San Francisco," added Conaghan, who will lead the incubator's board of directors comprised of fashion, retail and business development experts.

Each year FISF will provide six Designers in Residence with premier workshop space in Macy's offices at Union Square where they can create new lines and showcase their collections to merchants, ranging from local boutiques to national retailers. FISF also will offer business operations training from experts in the San Francisco fashion and economic development communities. The first class of designers is expected to move into the FISF workshop in March 2012 for their yearlong training.

In the last few years, locally made clothing has been at the forefront of the green fashion movement. San Francisco is but one of many cities seeing the trend coming to life. Surfacing in a world dominated by globalization, many brands are reconsidering oversees production due to the measurable preference for and quality of U.S. goods, a strong fashion trend for heritage brands and the discovery that they can produce here with only a minimal end price difference.

FISF expects to announce plans for the Designer in Residence program in September at Macy's Fashion's Night Out events, with hopes that incubator graduates will be showcasing their lines at the event in the future. At least that's what Macy's is betting considerable resources and PR leverage on.

"Macy's has long been a supporter of up-and-coming fashion designers. FISF was developed from the blueprint of the Chicago Fashion Incubator at Macy's on State Street, where 83 percent of the program participants have opened apparel businesses that are thriving," said Betsy Nelson, vice president of media relations and cause marketing for Macy's northwest and southwest regions. "Through FISF's incubator program, we can identify emerging local talent, provide the environment and materials to develop their collections, and introduce participants to the broader fashion community."

Ecosalon will update you on this developing story in September when the program officially kicks off and the program begins accepting applications.

Kate Hudson’s Baby Name, New Ambassadors Rebecca Gibney, Jared Leto and Aimee Mullins, Plus the Elwood Spring Launch

Posted: 15 Jul 2011 02:03 AM PDT

By Chloe Schneider

As the week wraps up, we find out what Kate Hudson has decided to name her new baby boy.
We also take a look at a huge event that sees Australian fashion label Elwood collaborating with music two music icons for the launch of their latest range.
Finally, we’re uncovering the latest celebrities to sign on as ambassadors for some of our favourite brands including the uber hot Jared Leto.

Kate Hudson’s Baby Name
After 4.5 hours of labour, Kate Hudson and Matthew Bellamy welcomed a little boy into their lives over the weekend and now the baby’s name has been announced! In the tradition of strange celeb baby names, Kate’s little one is called Bingham Hawn Bellamy.
The new father explained the name on his twitter account, saying, “For those wondering, Bingham is my Mum’s maiden name and Bing Russell was Kurt’s dad. Family connections all round!”
And of course ‘Hawn’, is a tribute to Kate’s mother Goldie Hawn.

Elwood Hits Bondi
Last night music icons Dan Sultan and Alexander Gow (Oh Mercy) joined up with Aussie fashion label Elwood to launch their spring range and their fresh flagship store at Bondi Junction’s Westfield.
These two unique guests took time out of their hectic tour to perform on the night where guests from magazines and media looked on and enjoyed the spring range that has been inspired by the all American Summer camp, complete with a touch of Girl Guide Glam.
Andy Gillot, Managing Director for Elwood, said of the collaboration with Oh Mercy, “I feel this is a great way to showcase Elwood’s passion and support of Australian artists, and celebrate the natural union of denim and music.”
All you flower children should check out the gorgeous range in Elwood stores and online at www.elwoodjeans.com. We love!

The Latest Faces to Brands
It’s always nice to have a face to a name and we’ve got three huge announcements of the latest faces to some big brand names. First off the rank is Australian Logie Award winner Rebecca Gibney who has just been announced as Olay Regnerist’s brand ambassador. Gibney said of the new gig, “Ageing is a fact of life and whilst I feel comfortable with it, like all women, I also want to slow down the signs of it. Great skincare has always been part of my daily routine and I can truly say, hand on heart, that Olay Regenerist does make a difference.”
Hugo Boss’ latest fragrance, HUGO – Just Different, is set to launch in Australia on the 7th of August with the multi-talented Jared Leto as its face. We can’t wait to see the brooding, creative Leto on a few advertisements and we think this fragrance might be one to keep on the radar for father’s day.
Finally, atheletic  star and McQueen muse Aimee Mullins is the new L’Oreal ambassador, saying, “The ‘Because I’m Worth It’ tagline means a lot to me. Beauty is not skin-deep, it can be a means of self-affirmation, a true indicator of personality and confidence.” Aimee joins mega-stars Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, Diane Kruger and more in the L’Oreal family.
