Sizzling Pictures of Actress Gwyneth Paltrow

Posted: 20 Apr 2011 02:03 AM PDT

wyneth Kate Paltrow is an American actress. She made her acting debut on stage in 1990 and started appearing in films in 1991. Paltrow was born in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Blythe Danner, an actress, and Bruce Paltrow, a film and television director and producer. Paltrow’s father was of Ashkenazi Russian Jewish descent; her mother is a Quaker of Pennsylvania Dutch and more distant white Barbadian ancestry. Paltrow’s paternal great-great-grandfather, whose surname was “Paltrowicz”, was a rabbi in Nowogrod, Poland.

Paltrow made her professional stage debut in 1990. Her film debut followed next year with Shout (1991), starring John Travolta; later that year, she appeared in Hook (1991), as the young Wendy Darling. Paltrow then had minor roles in Malice (1993) and Flesh and Bone (1993). She was next cast in a supporting role in Se7en (1995) alongside Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman, which earned her a Satellite Award nomination.

In 1998, Paltrow starred in Shakespeare in Love, portraying the fictional lover of William Shakespeare, played by Joseph Fiennes. The film earned more than US$ 100 million in box office receipts in the United States and Paltrow gained critical acclaim for her portrayal. Entertainment Weekly commented, “Best of all is Gwyneth Paltrow, who, at long last, has a movie to star in that’s as radiant as she is.

In 1999, Paltrow co-starred in The Talented Mr. Ripley, which earned $ 80 million domestically and received positive reviews. She showcased her singing ability in 2000′s Duets, which was directed by her father and co-starred singer Huey Lewis. The same year, Paltrow co-starred with Ben Affleck in the romantic drama Bounce as Abby Janello.

Chris Hemsworth Covering Men’s Health May 2011 Issue

Posted: 20 Apr 2011 02:02 AM PDT

Chris Hemsworth Covering Men's Health May 2011 Issue

The 27-year-old Aussie actor, Chris Hemsworth becomes increasingly popular due to his celebrated role in the forthcoming movie Thor that is going to come out on May 6th. Therefore no wonder this handsome Aussie is featured in the May 2011 issue of Men's Health magazine. Besides 'lending' his sculpted body to the Men's Health cover, Chris gave an interview. Here is what he had to share:

I always loved film, but never thought about it as a career choice. I had a different idea of what I wanted to do professionally every week. You know, I was a lawyer one week, a doctor, a sportsman in some way, and then I found out I can pretend to do all those things in acting.

On his role models:

Anthony Hopkins. His whole approach to this business, his work ethic and attitude on set was inspiring, however many films down the track he still has that and he still is excited to be there and treats everyone as equals and everything he does, he is an impressive person. I love Paul Giamatti, Johnny Depp, Al Pacino and Matt Damon, ya know, I could go on and on.

Watch the official Thor trailer.

Eco Style West Vol. 6

Posted: 19 Apr 2011 10:04 PM PDT

Sustainable style news and events from EcoSalon's West Coast fashion correspondent.

Jewel of the West – Celebrate Earth Day with a stop by jeweler extraordinaire Kirsten Muenster's trunk show at D&H Sustainable Jewelers in San Francisco on Friday April 22, 4–8 pm  &  Saturday April 23, 11 am–6 pm. Taste wines from local small production wineries and learn about Muenster's latest designs and inspirations for her exquisite line featuring ethically-sourced stones and materials. Muenster's work is always a revelation, her handmade designs displaying the delicate interplay between a practiced eye and a thoughtful artisan uniquely illustrating the treasures nature has to offer. EcoSalon will be on the scene.

Runway Headway – Venice's Abbot Kinney Boulevard may be one of L.A.'s hippest shopping destinations but my recent visit surprisingly failed to unearth any green fashion finds. If Earth Day is about inspiring action, the people at the G2 Gallery are leading the charge with their Eco Runway for Earth Day on Friday featuring the conscious active wear of Zavella, a socially-responsible clothing company. The GoodMakers Street Team will promote chemical-free makeup and Venice-based artisan Veronica Brigitte Rose with Ladjili jewelry will showcase her handmade crystal jewelry. Tasty treats by Chipotle.

Birthday Suit –  Honor the planet's birthday this week by slipping into something more comfortable with the world's best body treatment, Duchess Marden's new Body Serum. The line's founder, Mill Valley-based Marla Steuer, has created the most sensational and effective beauty remedy I've ever tried. Stunningly packaged, the paraben- and preservative-free Body Serum is an expertly blended mix of Steuer's signature highest-quality Damascena Pure Rose oil with anti-aging qualities of pure, plant-based elements such as apricot kernel oil, jojoba oil and skin-restoring sea buckthorn fruit extract and candlenut oil. The gift of feeling able to face transition with a renewed commitment to what is truly necessary this Earth Day, makes it worth every penny.

Xchange: A Forum For All Things Fashion And More

Posted: 19 Apr 2011 10:04 PM PDT

A new event kicked off in Sydney last night with the launch of Xchange, a forum for spirited debate, lively conversation and ladylike luxury.

Hosted by Daily Addict and Merivale, the evening took place in the Ivy’s lavish Den with sparkling refreshments supplied by Chandon. Invited along to begin the series of enticingly, fun weekly discussions were Rag Trader editor Assia Benmedjdoub and Australian designer Bowie Wong.

Fun was had by all as Wong, Benmedjdoub and founder of Daily Addict, Carrie Choo, debated over topics such as what the presence of Zara will mean for local brands, who sets the fashion trends (to which Wong replied “all of you!”) and the financial mathematics around running a designer label (box pleats aren’t as cheap as you’d think!).

The night finished up with a fashion show exhibiting a snippet of Diane von Furstenburg’s collection and a DvF themed lucky door price.

Quote of the night goes to Assia Benmedjdoub for her response to the question, “Who do women dress for?”

“Women dress for women. I think if women dressed for men we’d be naked or in La Perla. What man likes statement shoulders?”

A wonderfully humorous quote for a wonderfully glamorous evening.

GQ Style White Riot Gang

Posted: 19 Apr 2011 06:00 PM PDT

white riot gang GQ 01 horz GQ Style White Riot Gang
Scarves! We all need ‘em, and this White Riot Gang editorial in GQ Style Italia has enough panache to leave us wanting a few more for flourishing purposes. Of course, the sense of movement in the spread, shot by Kai Z.Feng, is helped along by jumping, plus wind machines lifting light scarves for extra movement. As for the actual labels in the spread? We have Louis Vuitton, Hermes, and Gucci making an appearance in GQ Style, looking perfectly good with blazers, jeans, and coats (double-breasted welcome).

After I got over the scarves, I had another look back through the GQ spread for the good finds mixed in with the accessories. One of my favorite combinations is the orange-printed, lightweight silk scarf with a denim shirt underneath, plus a jacket up top. It’s easy to replicate via color and fabric matching, as are the white shirts and a rolled foulard, braided belts and denim, and contrasting silk prints between shirts and scarves. The prints are getting the denim out of the stuffy cooler seasons, the scarves are adding some movement and interest, and the jackets are lending finish to the look. Will it be slicked-back hair for you this time? [via modeman]
