Lustables: Lalesso’s Maradufu Dress

Posted: 26 Jul 2011 02:05 AM PDT

The Maradufu Dress is a great option for looking crisp on hot, summer days.

Lalesso was formed by co-designers Olivia Kennaway and Alice Heusser after a holiday to Lamu Island off the north coast of Kenya. Their site reads that both Olivia and Alice “are children of Africa and have been wrapped in its beautiful fabrics since birth. After studying fashion design together in Cape Town the pair were impelled to harness the magical beauty of the East African 'khanga', also known as 'lesso' to create vibrant and care free summer fashion. And so, Lalesso, an exclusively summer clothing and lifestyle brand which uses the khanga as a trademark to all of its designs, was born.”

We love the Kenya made Maradufu tea dress with, as Kate from Kaight calls it a “fly away wing effect.”

On sale at Kaight for $ 96.60. Totally hip straw hat not included but urge you to buy…

The Green Guide to Sexy Summer Feet

Posted: 25 Jul 2011 06:04 PM PDT

Six products that soften and nourish our summertime feet.

Summer can be a tricky time for your feet. Unsheathed from the protective coverings of winter, our feet may react like vampires pushed into the sunlight – and not the kind that sparkle. That's when our feet become accessories themselves, as we polish our toes and shine our heels. But what great green products to use? Here's our picks.

Farmaesthetics Hand to Heel Softening Salve ($ 26.00)
Another outstanding product from Farmaesthetics, this salve offers up a deliciously minty moisture for your toughened heels. This calendula-based product provides up a soothing solution to your cracked heels, as well as burns, bruises and even eczema. It also contains beeswax, lavender, peppermint and carrot oils and is 100% natural with certified organic ingredients. And despite its hard-core moisturizing agents, it goes on rather light and absorbs quickly. Which is another way of saying we love this product.

Tade Natural Black Pumice Stone ($ 6.00)
Heels and tough spots are significantly softened, now how to make them go away? You pumice, I pumice, we all pumice! Sandals expose our feet to the elements, paving the way for cracked, tough skin. A pumice stone is a great weapon in the battle against big calluses. An excellent tool to help reduce the thickness of harder skin, this 100% natural volcanic stone can use used to exfoliate your heels or anywhere on the body that needs it.

Hydrea London FSC Certified Nail Brush ($ 5.00)

Perfect for your at-home pedicure, this ethically-sourced brush cleans your nails while exfoliating the skin around your cuticles. It has been made from wood assessed by the Forest Stewardship Council. Its short, Sisal bristles remain stiff while wet, giving you an advantage over unwanted dry skin.

Angel Face Botanicals Rock Star Detox Body Scrub ($ 19.00)
Want to go the extra mile for your feet? Place your tired toes in a warm soak for at least five minutes. Then treat them to this detoxifying scrub, formulated to draw out toxins and pollution from your body. This gentle, herbal detox scrub is quite moisturizing all on its own, offering up an easy solution to deal with dead skin and calluses. It has a lovely honey-citrus scent that will make you feel mini spa-angels have invaded your home. Not to mention, it's formulated for the entire body.

Dr. Hauschka Body Silk Powder ($ 34.95)
Ready to dust the day off your feet? This light, talc-free powder can help deodorize feet (it happens) and can even been used as a translucent face powder. From holistic skin care pioneer Dr. Hauschka, the powder is made with finely-ground pure silk. As much as 98% of the plants in Dr. Hauschka Skin Care products are grown biodynamically, organically or have been ethically wild-harvested.

Badger Cuticle Care ($ 5.50)
When your toes are heading for epic dryness, this cuticle softener from Badger can help turn the tide. Made with shea butter, it contains Seabuckthorn Berry CO2 Extract which will help sooth your cracked cuticles. Badger calls it "delightfully fragranced" and we must admit that it is, carrying a light, lemony tinge to it. Badger shea butter is traditionally-processed from the seeds of wild-grown Karite Tree of Western Africa. It is also USDA certified organic.

By Chloe Schneider

Newlyweds Kate Moss and Jamie Hince are in Australia much to the delight of fans of the model who has never visited us down under before!
Kim Kardashian spent the weekend in Vegas with her best gal pals and disobeyed a cardinal rule by crashing her hubby’s bachelor party.
Kristen Cavallari and Jay Cutler have called off their engagement, much to the Laguna Beach stars disappointment.

Kate Moss in Australia
It seems like newlyweds Kate Moss and Jamie Hince can’t bear to be away from each other for very long. Since Hince is performing with his band The Kills last night in Sydney and this weekend at Splendour in the Grass, Kate Moss has decided to take her first ever trip to Australia!
Harper’s Bazaar reported that the pair landed at Sydney Airport on Saturday afternoon and yesterday twitter went mad with fans reporting Moss had been spotted around The Intersection at Paddington. Moss was said to have been spotted at the Ksubi store in Glenmore Road but there are yet to be any pictures to prove it!
We’re sure there are going to be many people across the country trying to get a glimpse of the supermodel, it’s quickly turning into a much more glam version of ‘Where’s Wally?’
Make sure you let us know on Facebook or Twitter if you happen to spot her!

Kim Kardashian Waking Up in Vegas
Kim Kardashian was spotted wearing a tiara and a sash whilst sipping out of straws shaped like a certain part of the male anatomy. Yes, that’s right, it was diva Kim’s bachelorette party and sisters Kourtney and Khloe stuck by their word in ensuring her sister was suitably embarrassed on the night.
While Kim and her twenty something guests ate cake and giggled while a dwarf male stripper performed at the dinner table at Tao Las Vegas, her fiancé Kris downed shots with Rob Kardashian, Lamar Odom and a posse of NBA players at the Lavo Las Vegas.
Despite vowing they would stay at their own hotels for the weekend, Kim couldn’t resist checking up on husband-to-be Kris, heading over to Lavo at around 2am and completely crashing the boy’s party! Luckily, she only stayed ten minutes before leaving the men to celebrate alone.
The wedding is set for August 20th.

Kristin Cavallari Dumped
Laguna Beach star and LA socialite Kristin Cavallari engagement to Chicago Bears player Jay Cutler has allegedly been called off.
The split comes as a shock to all including Cavallari who tweeted just one week ago, “thx to all my amazing friends for making my engagement part a blast last night!” and had already completed a wedding registry and started a workout program in order to look fabulous on her wedding day.
A source told PEOPLE, “She got dumped. She’s absolutely devastated. She can’t believe this is happening.”
The reality star was spotted at The Beverly in LA with Nicky Hilton and Alessandra Ambrosio without her engagement ring and was reportedly telling friends about how the engagement had been called off.

Swim Week in Miami Debuts World’s First Compostable Bathing Suit

Posted: 25 Jul 2011 06:03 PM PDT

Can we save the planet with one bikini at a time? A designer featured during Swim Week in Miami thinks so. The first ever fully compostable bathing suit appeared on the runaway at the Setai. Designer Linda Loudermilk, a pioneer of the eco-fashion movement, created the first compostable swimsuit from a plant starch that had been turned into fabric.

Loudermilk said of the bathing suit design, "You can use it again or you can throw it away.  It's very inexpensive, so it's something you can give to your guests but it has  a fashion forward look." According to the “Luxury Eco” designer, the compostable bathing suit will not dissolve on a woman’s body when she wears it swimming, but if she decides she does not want to wear the suit anymore all she will have to do is bury it. The suit will decompose and breakdown in 180 days leaving no traces of it behind.

Loudermilk was not the only designer to showcase eco-friendly and sustainable swimwear during Miami’s Swim Week. In the Haute Natured Swimwear Show many fashion experts showcased sustainability for the beach. Eco Swim, Meadow and Mae all joined Luxury Eco in showing off swim fashions designed to be Earth friendly. Up-cycled fabrics, repurposed materials, biodegradable plant oil and organic fibers were used to make sexy, stylish beach wear an incredible part of Swim Week.

Eco-designers face challenges when using sustainable material for swimsuits. For example, Jenni Saylor of Eco Swim by AquaGreen claims that “it's impossible to make a suit that will appeal to women without at least a  little spandex, aka Lycra, which helps a suit cling in the right places.”

Both eco-couture designers believe in making fashion that is positive for the Earth. Loudermilk said of the eco-friendly swimwear movement, "This is the new meaning of luxury. How many Gucci glasses and Louis Vuitton bags and products can you have? The  luxury eco movement is giving people a way to be proud of what they're choosing  to wear.”

The Haute Natured swimwear show wasn’t just about showcasing eco-fashions. The runway show also benefited the International Seakeepers Society which promotes education opportunities on ocean issues, protects the marine environment and focuses on science for marine research and ocean conservation.
