Actress Kavita goes topless

Posted: 01 May 2011 12:15 PM PDT

Kavita Radheshyam's bold photo shoot

Kavita Radheshyam, an upcoming actress, is on an agenda of putting an end to the cruelty towards animals.
To ensure that her effort doesn’t go unnoticed, Kavita has posed nude during a photoshoot and she plans to make the pictures public soon. Talking about the same, she said, “This is my protest in my own way to show my anger towards the cruelty on animals that takes place in India.”

Explaining the idea behind this photoshoot, Kavita said, “For animals, their clothes are their skin. When we are killing animals for their skin we are actually stripping them naked and that too for our convenience. I felt that it’s high time that we too do something to save them from this cruelty and so I planned this photoshoot.”
Though Kavita is not associated to any animal welfare organization, she has filed an application with PETA appealing them to support her in her fight.
Kavita lashed out at the uncaring manner in which animal welfare is treated in India. “I see so many banners and hoardings talking about Saving Tigers. I want to ask how much money is spent for all this? Wouldn’t it be better to invest the same money in actually saving these animals?”
Well, Kavita did raise some interesting questions. However, only time will tell if her nude photoshoot helps saving the animals.

Interview with MiKlum Studio, Designers of Furniture Out of Nothing

Posted: 01 May 2011 02:03 AM PDT

"upcycled wood shelf design"Singular upcycled wooden boxes called “Frank” combine to create larger design pieces.

Tel Aviv has been fortunate enough to experience a recent influx of sustainable design studios, creating anything from rotary telephone desk lamps to wood veneer light fixtures.  These studios are slowly bringing upcycled and sustainable design to the mainstream, and two new girls on the block recently opened yet another studio – MiKlum.  MiKlum (or, “from nothing” in Hebrew) is the south Tel Aviv studio of Daphna Olinsky and Einat Zinger-Feiler, two ladies who decided to create, in their own words, “renewvative design”.

The two “gather and re-design materials that have completed their ‘conventional’ life cycle and are considered waste,” using their design prowess to transform these materials into new, functional, interesting pieces.  Green Prophet spoke to Daphna and Einat recently, learning more about sustainable design, the eco-design community in Tel Aviv, and how they go about collecting materials.

"frank recycled cube furniture"How did you and Einat meet and what made you decide to open a studio together?

DAPHNA: Einat and I met through a mutual friend (thanks Shiri!). I was in the fashion business for quite a few years, and was heading to Berlin for a week off. A friend who knew Einat suggested I meet her, being that she is a fashion designer and has been living there for a while. I not only shopped at her great shop in Berlin, but we kept in close touch until she officially moved back to Israel and started talking reUse.

Einat and I both lived overseas for good periods of our lives. We have both recently moved back to Israel, and were looking to create something meaningful. Einat had a great idea, and as we put both our heads to it, we felt this was the right thing at the right time.

EINAT: in our case you can successfully say opposites attracts, we were both immediately attracted to the same field but wanted to play such different rolls, that it was clear from the start that together we make a whole.

How long have you both get involved with sustainable design?

DAPHNA: Einat has been involved with sustainable design for about 5 years now. She can tell you all about the Recycling-Börse she works with in Germany…

I myself, am new to the field, but feel extremely connected to it. I come from a marketing and sales background, incorporating this experience to different fields throughout my career.

EINAT: I was taken by the cause of sustainable design about 5 years ago in Berlin, I was taking part in a joint project by the "Recyclingbörse" (an organisation that deals with unemployment and recycling) and Product Designer Oliver Schübbe, seeing the amount of wasted material being collected changed my horizons.

"upcycled wood shelving"Could you tell us a little about your work, how you began making the Frank pieces, and your ideas for future projects?

DAPHNA: Our aim is to create product lines. We have put together a ‘line’ for wood products, and are working on a plastic-bag line, as well as a carton line. We start off the line with a product or two we scout out, but once the line is up, we would be calling for designers to offer new products for us to create for them, and sell on.

Where do you collect your materials?

DAPHNA: Currently, our wood ‘line’ is collected in cooperation with the city ministery of Givatayim. The next ‘line’s are being discussed with additional city ministeries. It seems cities have started collecting separated waste, but do not have the solutions to them quite yet.. That is where we come in.

EINAT: it is highly important for us to join forces with the given infrastructures dealing with waste management.

We know that sustainable design studios have been emerging in Tel Aviv over the past few years (such as Junktion, Studio Mesila, Hasadna) – do they form a community, and is there interaction between the studios?

DAPHNA: Absolutely. Just like any field, and especially in Israel, it seems everyone knows everyone. We are still the new girls on the block, but so far have received a warm welcome from whomver we approached.

EINAT: Sure, especially since the matter here is so important to all. i feel like there is mutual support.

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie: Hat Horrors at the Royal Wedding

Posted: 30 Apr 2011 10:05 PM PDT

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie were among the royal guests at the wedding of thier cousin, William, but unlike other the other attendees who wore rather elegant dresses, the two were fashion failures. Fashion police alert!

Beatrice wore a beige dress which was bulky and boring, thanks to its plain color and design. What made her look worse however was her hat, that seemed to be an octopus standing on top of her head. Eugenie’s hat meanwhile was more acceptable, but the hemlines of her dress were terrible. Did Philip Treacy play a trick on these two, or do they just follow the same horrible fashion sense as her mother, Sarah Ferguson?

Weird Standing Out In The Crowd Images

Posted: 30 Apr 2011 10:03 AM PDT

Have you ever wanted to stand out in a group of people? These photoshopped images place animals, people and objects in scenes that they definitely do not belong. It is fairly easy to locate the out of place items, people and animals, and some of them are bordering on the creepy.

The Royal Wedding: A Princess is Made

Posted: 30 Apr 2011 06:05 AM PDT

By Chloe Schneider

We, like many Australians, were curled up in front of the TV last night with girlfriends, champagne and a whole lot of ooing and ahhing as we watched the royal wedding unfold.
Here are all the details on the gowns, the beauty and the jewels…

The Bride’s Dress
When Kate Middleton then stepped out in a stunning wedding gown by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, thousands of fashionistas were probably cashing in on bets. The instantly iconic dress had long Chantilly lace sleeves and a subtle V-neckline was a very obvious nod to Grace Kelly’s wedding gown. An opening flower inspired the silk gazar skirt and the Bridesmaid was in for quite a task ensuring the nine-foot long train was controlled.
Kate looked absolutely stunning, albeit a little careful. It was, afterall, a royal occasion so we’ll forgive Burton and Middleton for playing it safe.

The Bridesmaid

Kate’s sister Pippa Middleton’s gown was met with overwhelmingly positive feedback. There have even been mutterings that she showed up the Bride!
Also designed by Sarah Burton for McQueen, the ivory satin-based gown looked absolutely stunning on the beautiful bridesmaid. It was the details, like the pretty cowl neckline, that really had our jaws dropping. The form-fitting column number had button detailing and lace trims that matched the brides dress.
Pippa’s hair was in a similar half-up do to her sisters and her make-up simple. We thought she od’d on the tan a little but, all in all, the bridesmaids look was one of the best we’ve ever seen.

The Beauty
We were shocked and excited to discover that Kate Middleton did her own make-up on the big day. Word is the bride has had a series of private lessons with London makeup artist Arabella Preston to prepare. Pre-wedding, planner Mark Niemierko told PEOPLE, “I heard Arabella Preston was called in by a mutual friend of her and Kate’s. She’s had about three or four lessons with Kate at her private flat in Chelsea and has also gone, very privately, to Clarence House. Arabella was supposed to be coming on the day as well but now she isn’t, because Kate’s comfortable and confident in doing it herself.”
And it was a job well done, she looked absolutely radiant, channeling the perfect English Rose look.

The Hair
The royal locks were coiffed by a stylist from Richard Ward Salon and Metrospa, James Pryce. James has been the 29-year-old’s hair dresser for the past eight years. The simple curls were very Kate — understated and pretty in a half-up, half-down coif. Her gorgeous chocolate locks were in thick ringlets, a final touch that made the look more chic than casual.

The Jewels
As we are all aware, Prince William gave his fiancé the 18 carat oval blue sapphire and diamond ring that his mother Princess Diana chose for her engagement to Prince Charles.
Last night we watched with bated breath as Prince William fit the wedding band, a welsh gold piece created by Wartski from a piece of the precious metal that was given to Prince William by Queen Elizabeth shortly after his engagement.
Prince William has decided against a wedding ring for himself.
The Queen, completing the ‘something borrowed’ portion of Kate’s ensemble, lent that stunning tiara to the bride for the regal occasion. King George VI purchased the Cartier piece just three weeks before he took the throne for the Queen Mother. It was then passed down to Queen Elizabeth on her 18th birthday. Dubbed the ‘Halo’ tiara, the piece looked stunning with the Rpbin Pelham design diamond drops. Inspired by the Middleton coat of arms, the gorgeous earrings were a gift from her parents.

The Boys
Prince William wore the uniform of Colonel of the Irish Guards for his big day. Featuring a scarlet jacket, gold and crimson sash, gold sword slings and a forage cap, he will look every bit the perfect prince. The Irish Guards position is William’s highest military title so he will be wearing this striking uniform along with the Garter Sash with the Wings of the Royal Air Force, the Garter Start and the Golden Jubilee Medal.
His best man and brother had the uniform of Captain of the Household Cavalry on while Price Charles wore the Ceremonial Royal Navy Number One Dress.

Steal Kate Middleton's Wedding Makeup and Hairstyle Look

Kate Middleton's Makeup

You won't believe it but it is true Kate Middleton's ventured to create her wedding makeup on her own. She has been taking lessons from bridal makeover specialist, Arabella Preston. And it must be admitted the lessons haven't gone off in vain.

Steal Kate Middleton's Wedding Makeup and Hairstyle Look

For eye makeup Kate has opted for gorgeously smoked-up look spiced with eyeliner. Her complexion was glowing complemented with a slight touch of rosy blush. And to finish her natural makeup Kate opted for nude lipstick. A perfect example of how every fashionable bride should look like!

Kate Middleton's Hairstyle

Who could have imagined that Kate would depart from the standard updo, and let her hair be loosely curled. But anyway she did it and it was a wise choice. Her hairstyle wonderfully complemented the charm of lace Alexander McQueen Gown. The Royal Bride looked simply amazing sporting soft waves, topped off with a silk veil, and Cartier tiara.

Steal Kate Middleton's Wedding Makeup and Hairstyle Look

To make Kate Middleton-inspired hairstyle you need to blow-dry your hair with a round brush to create the lift at the crown and curl at the ends. When your hair is completely dry, curl it using a curling iron making spiral curls. Then fix your tresses applying just a bit of hairspray.
